The USS Watchismo has unearthed a new collection of VOID watches
V01 and V02 now with stainless steel straps!
"Inspired by the horizon, the line where sky and sea meet, a coming together of the elements and a reconciliation of opposites"
VOID Watches is an independent boutique watch brand launched in 2008 as the single vision of Swedish designer David Ericsson.
They have a unique take on watch design using simple yet expressive
shapes, giving our watches an almost architectural expression. Just like
a great building is designed to fit its environment, all VOID Watches
are made to sit perfectly on your wrist.
The design draws heavily on the Scandinavian design tradition using
simple geometries and materials often found in architecture. Our design
philosophy is to create unique products using as simple geometries as
possible and bring them to life by using honest, traditional materials.
The V02 uses two ‘compass needle’ hands, the short hand representing
the hours and the long the minutes as on any other watch. Each hand has
one rd. and one white end where each color corresponds to the number
with the matching color on the dial.
V01EL – DIGITAL WATCH
This watch uses a custom inverted LCD display with an
electroluminescent back light and simple time/date functions. The solid
stainless steel case is measuring 36 x 42 x 9mm. The watch comes in
various colours and finishes. It has a mineral glass crystal and a high
quality leather strap.
V02 – ANALOGUE WATCH
This iconic watch features a novel interpretation of the classic
speedometer-style dial showing only half of the traditional circular
face.
The V02 uses two ‘compass needle’ hands, the short hand representing
the hours and the long indicating the minutes as on a normal watch. Each
hand has one red and one white tip at opposite ends where each colored
tip corresponds to the digit with the matching color on the dial.
This watch is deliberately engineered to encourage the user to
reflect on the value of time. The main challenge has been finding the
optimum balance between usability and complexity. By using a
representation of the classic compass needle, a deliberate contradiction
of an intuitive symbology is created. This unusual method of displaying
time encourages the user to reflect on this most precious of all
commodities and acts as a reminder of the fragility and transience of a
moment.
The solid stainless steel case is precisely molded and carefully
proportioned measuring 36 x 42 x 9mm. The watch comes in various colors
and finishes, with a mineral glass crystal and high quality leather
strap. The ‘compass needle’ hands still allow the use of a standard 12
hour high quality quartz movement from Japan.

Designer
David Ericsson (b 1977 in Sweden) has always been fascinated with the
process of creating products, from idea to delivery to the end user.
After graduating as an engineer from the Royal Institute of Technology
in Stockholm, he started to work for one of Sweden’s largest industrial
design firms, where he gradually shifted his attention towards design.
With a technical background, his design approach is often to keep things
as simple as possible, but with a unique twist.
